CTF
Welcomes 2003 Winners
17th May, 2004
By Christine Skeete
The Community Tourism Foundation
(CTF) recently hosted the
winners of the 2003 CTF Incentive Programme, American couple
Marianne and Ronald Pahssen of Roscommon, Michigan in Barbados
for six days.
As part of
their raffle prize of a trip back to Barbados, the Pahssens
enjoyed a free return flight on US Airways, free hotel
accommodation and car rental for six days, along with
complimentary lunch, dinner and admission to popular
attractions.
The
CTF is
grateful to its partners Accra Beach Hotel, Atlantis
Submarines, Courtesy Rent-A-Car, Harrison’s Cave, Pelican
Craft Centre, Tall Ships, US Airways, Waterfront Café and Weiser’s on the Bay for their support of this initiative.
The
Pahssens were randomly selected from among hundreds of donors
from the cruise market to be converted to stay-over visitors
and to have the opportunity to experience the community life
of Barbados. The incentive of receiving a trip back to
Barbados helps to stimulate contributions from cruise
passengers towards the CTF’s community projects.
One of the
projects that have received funding from the
CTF is entitled
“Youth and Agro-Eco Tourism” and is being coordinated by the
Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN). A plot of land in
Marchfield, St. Philip is being cultivated by eight young
people and the produce is marketed to the hotel sector.
Founded in
December 2000, the Community Tourism Foundation is a
charitable organisation that partners with the tourism sector
to improve communities through the application of
self-development, enterprise and educational projects that
develop the skills and knowledge of disadvantaged
individuals.
